Hi, I’m Hanna
You know when someone says to you, I’m that swan, everything looks so good on the surface but underneath everything is going like crazy and all is not as calm as it seems.
When you work with me, all will be as calm as it seems.
I used to be struck down by terrible performance anxiety, I hated public speaking and would tremble while I was doing it. Before I went in the simulator I would struggle to sleep and get my mind under control that I would be okay while being examined.
In fact when I look back at my life, it is literally littered with stories where I have been so prepared for anything that I’m going into, I know my stuff.
But then when something happens, a hard conversation, an interview, my mind would take over. It would tell me I couldn’t do it, that I wasn’t good enough, that I deserved to fail and guess what I did.
Sometimes I’d be okay, sometimes I wouldn’t be.
I went for a computer test once for a flying scholarship, years before I actually become a pilot, and I made a mistake in the first 2 minutes. I lost control of myself and couldn’t recover to pass the test. They were right to fail me, I needed to learn resilience and how to control my mind.
Fast forward 10 years, I no longer feel anxiety before simulator tests, I show up to interviews knowing that I can answer any question confidently, I have conversations where I have time to listen and think about my response before I react like a keyboard warrior (yep. I did that too).
And the reason I can do that is nothing to do with how much I’ve prepared, because if you’re anything like me, I know you prepare for EVERYTHING.
It’s because I’m in control of my mind, through my breathing.
Yep, it’s that basic.
But it’s not basic because really, none of us are doing it.
All those years I was showing up and thinking there was something wrong with me because my mind took over and ruined those situations for me.
The truth is, I didn’t know that if you’re not in control of your breath, you will never have control of your mind and conversations, presentations, meetings, tests, things you’re afraid of, will always get the best of you.
